History & Culture
The iLembe North Coast carries a deep history shaped by Zulu heritage, coastal settlements and diverse cultural influences. KwaDukuza (formerly Stanger) is closely linked to King Shaka’s royal settlement of Dukuza, with heritage sites and stories that continue to shape the district’s identity.
From the early Zulu kingdom through mission heritage in Groutville and the story of Chief Albert Luthuli, to the sugar belt that transformed the coastal landscape, iLembe offers visitors a layered narrative alongside its beaches and hospitality.
